REAL CLOSE GUIDED TOURS
Go behind the scenes and see the zoo in a whole new way!
Summer Guided Tours
When: June 27 - October 31, tours run Fridays-Sundays
What you'll see:
Explore award-winning Woodland Park Zoo on a 90-minute guided tour. From the zoo’s South Plaza you’ll visit our award-winning African Savanna and Village, get up close and personal with some of the Savanna’s feathered residents, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the heart of the zoo’s operations area, including the greenhouses—home to more than 900 orchids and other New and Old World tropical plants used in a variety of zoo exhibits—and commissary, where all of the food for our more than 1,000 animal residents is stored and prepped. Think your pets at home eat a lot? Wait until you see how much food it takes to keep our gorillas and grizzly bears happy!
Then, it's off to visit the newest residents of Woodland Park Zoo, our three Visayan warty pigs. Get an up-close look at this endangered species from a special viewing area. At the conclusion of your tour, you’ll be free to explore the rest of the zoo on your own, or if you cannot stay longer, your guide will escort you back to the South Plaza.
PLEASE NOTE: We require a minimum 48-hour notice to confirm your tour reservation, or you may purchase tickets at the zoo's South Entrance (Fremont Avenue N. & N. 50th Street) on the day of the tour, subject to availability. Tour space is limited to 16 guests per departure date, so make your reservation early!
Fall and Winter Tours
Available Nov. 2014 - April 2015
What you'll see:
Step back in time before journeying to Arctic climates on Woodland Park Zoo’s newest Real Close Tour. Begin at the West Entrance and follow your guide to our Historic Carousel. Choose your carousel pony and enjoy a ride while your guide explains the rich history of this cherished piece of early 20th century artwork.
Continue your tour to our award-winning Northern Trail exhibit and be on the lookout for wolves, bears, elk, mountain goats, eagles and more. Take a stroll behind the scenes to see the exhibits from the working side of the zoo, and learn how we care for, feed and train these magnificent animals.
Your tour ends at the entrance of our Australasia exhibit, from there you ‘ll have the rest of the day to explore the zoo at your own pace. Or, if you cannot stay, your guide will escort you back to the West Entrance.
PLEASE NOTE: We require a minimum 48 hours notice to confirm your tour reservation, or you may purchase tickets at the zoo's West Entrance (Phinney Ave. and N. 55th Street) on the day of the tour, subject to availability.
