It’s summer in Seattle! Cool off with the animals at Woodland Park Zoo. Watch grizzlies, otters and kunekune pigs beat the heat with icy treats and other summer favorites on the hottest day of the summer!

Kunekune pigs are a recent addition to the zoo’s Family Farm. They arrived in May and are a New Zealand breed. Stop by the exhibit and see Baxter and Barkley as they soak up the sun in their kiddie pool.


Friday, August 17

Kunekune pigs -- 1:00 p.m., Family Farm: splashing around in the kiddie pool

Grizzlies and otters -- 1:30 p.m., Northern Trail: ice treats with juice and mixed fruits.


Woodland Park Zoo. Enter through West Entrance on Phinney Ave. N. between N. 55th & N. 56th Sts. for staff escort.


7-month-old kunekune pigs, Baxter and Barkley; 18-year-old grizzly bear brothers, Keema and Denali; 16-year-old female and 14-year-old male otters, Sunny and Duncan. 


Summer hours: 9:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. daily. Admission through September 30: Adult (13-64) id="mce_marker"7.75; Child (3-12) id="mce_marker"1.50; Toddler (0-2) Free. Active and retired U.S. military and their families, seniors and people with disabilities receive a discount and zoo members receive free zoo admission year round. Parking: $5.25
