EVERY DAY IS EARTH DAY WITH PARTY FOR THE PLANET

We’re throwing a party and you’re invited

Sat., April 11 – Sun., April 19, 2015

At Party for the Planet, celebrate the wondrous gifts of nature and wildlife with us! Enjoy fun conservation activities, a text message scavenger hunt, or take an eco-tour! Join us in making our planet an even better place to live for future generations.

Text Message Scavenger Hunt

While you’re celebrating at Party for the Planet, take part in a text message scavenger hunt throughout the zoo! When you arrive at the zoo, text "planet" to 56512 to get started. Everyone who completes the hunt will be automatically entered for a chance to win a behind-the-scenes penguin encounter for four!

Maned wolves make their debut

Meet the new maned wolves in the zoo’s Wildlife Survival Zone: female Lana, 6 years old, and her son, Vinny, 4 years old. The mom and son lived together at Greensboro Science Center before arriving at Woodland Park Zoo.

Maned wolves are large canids that have fox-like characteristics, an impressive red coat, large ears, and stilt-like legs, adapted for living in the grasslands and scrub forest of central South America.

Because maned wolf numbers are dropping and they continue to face loss of habitat in their native countries, they were added to the Association of Zoos and Aquarium’s Species Survival Plan conservation breeding program in 1985. Woodland Park Zoo is supporting the Maned Wolf Conservation Program: Lobos da Canastra in Brazil in an effort to raise awareness and positively influence public policy in order to reinforce habitat protection and implement landscape management plans that benefit these unusual but amazing canids.
