Financial assistance information for zoo field trips

ELIGIBILITY

 

Woodland Park Zoo offers two financial assistance options, School-to-Zoo Levy Funding and Washington Low Income (WALI) for field trips. Please review the eligibility requirements for both options since some schools/groups may be eligible for either option. 

Financial Assistance Options

Option 1: School-to-Zoo Levy

King County Schools

Offered: September - June

Thanks to the 2019 King County Parks Levy renewal, we are able to offer School-to-Zoo levy funding to eligible schools within King County.

Eligibility

  • Schools (PreK-12th) in King County with 30% or more of their students receiving free or reduced-rate lunches, or a comparable level of scholarship per OSPI.
  • Seattle Preschool Programs, Early Head Start, Head Start and ECEAP in King County.
  • Private schools in King County with 30% or more of their students on scholarship (documentation must be submitted to WPZ).

Qualifying Groups Receive

  • Free admission for all students
  • Free admission for 1 adult chaperone (educators and parents/guardians) for every 4 students.
    Admission for chaperones beyond the 1:4 ratio must be paid in advance to qualify for the education rate.
    Note: Please do not include 1:1 aids/para-educators in your chaperone count. 1:1 aids, etc. always recieve free admission.

Option 2: Washington Low Income (WALI)

Washington State Schools

Offered: All Year

Woodland Park Zoo’s Washington Low Income (WALI) is dedicated to making the zoo more accessible to low-income, at-risk or underserved children and families in our shared community.

Eligibility

  • Schools (PreK-12th) in Washington state with 30% or more of their students receiving free or reduced-rate lunches, or a comparable level of scholarship per OSPI.
  • Seattle Preschool Program, Early Head Start, Head Start and ECEAP in Washington state.
  • Private schools in Washington state with 30% or more of their students on scholarship (documentation must be submitted to WPZ).
