Watch: Update on one of the two male gorilla infan

Watch: Update on one of the two male gorilla infants recently born at Woodland Park Zoo and currently in human care. He is already showing improvement and getting lots of cuddles, warm bottles, and smiles from our expert veterinary care staff as well as a wonderful team from Swedish Healthcare. Our goal is to return him to his gorilla family once he gains a little weight and we’re sure he is able to nurse well.

One of the two male gorilla infants recently born at Woodland Park Zoo is currently in human care and already showing improvement after exhibiting signs of dehydration. He is getting lots of cuddles, warm bottles, and smiles from our expert veterinary care staff as well as a wonderful team from Swedish Healthcare. Our goal is to return him to his gorilla family once he gains a little weight and we’re sure he is able to nurse well. In the meantime, moms Jamani and Olympia are getting extra support too. Olympia is still recovering from her recent C-section and Jamani has been doing double duty, nursing both babies. Both of them are getting supplemental add-ins to their daily diets with milk-boosting foods such as electrolyte drinks, avocado and oatmeal.

Need some claw-some news? Woodland Park Zoo is pleased to announce $900,000 in new grants awarded to zoos and aquariums that foster empathy for wildlife in communities across the United States!

This year, 13 funded projects span urban, rural, and desert communities and ecosystems, from a mix of new and existing partner organizations in the Advancing Conservation through Empathy for Wildlife (ACE for Wildlife®) Network. This diversity of projects expands opportunities for learning, innovation, and shared practice across the zoo and aquarium field.
