NATURE PLAY

About Zoomazium

Zoomazium is an indoor, all-weather facility that incorporates spectacular multimedia features with fun, interactive nature-themed areas devoted to play and learning for children from birth to eight (8) years of age (though all ages and abilities are welcome!) All of the exhibits within Zoomazium have been designed for whole-bodied, imaginative play, as well as integration with existing zoo programs.

The building is divided into several play areas, including active spaces for exploratory play, a stage for theatrical demonstrations, storytelling, puppet shows and video presentations, and opportunities for guided learning. What could be more fun than exploring a mountain cave, crossing a rope bridge in the tree canopy, discovering what lies beneath a savanna water hole or even climbing a 20-foot tree?! All this and more are awaiting discovery for young children interested in nature.

Play in Zoomazium

Zoomazium provides opportunities for sensory seeking children, including activities to support language development, motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interactions. Sensory support tools are available daily, including fidgets, textured items, headphones, sunglasses, compression vests, and weighted items. To learn more about play in Zoomaiuzm and to plan your visit, we suggest using the Zoomazium Social Story

Low Sensory Fridays

On Fridays, Zoomazium provides modifications to reduce sensory stimulation to create a quieter and calmer environment for children with sensory sensitivities and their families. Here are some of the modifications you will find in Zoomazium.

  • Background noises are reduced
  • Strangler Fig tree is closed to reduce noise
  • Exhibit lights are adjusted to lower settings
  • Mountain projectors show a still image instead of moving video
