#ThisIsHowWeZoo: Fall and fun happening at Woodland Park Zoo

Pumpkin Bash presented by Smile Generation: Saturday and Sunday, October 25–26, 9:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Enjoy a weekend of trick-or-treating around the zoo for kids of all ages, mascot-led parades, pumpkin displays, and more fun for little goblins and ghosts while animals such as otters, red panda, penguins, bears, and more gobble, crunch, smash, and play with pumpkins and other autumn-themed treats. Boomazium will be a hub of excitement, featuring a variety of engaging activities tailored for the youngest visitors. and don’t miss out on live pumpkin carving demonstrations. During Pumpkin Bash, one child 12 years and under will be admitted to the zoo FREE per each full-priced adult ticket, and costumes are encouraged. Visit www.zoo.org/pumpkinbash for more information.
WildLanterns presented by Western Washington Toyota Dealers, November 14, 2025 through January 18, 2026, 4:00–9:00 p.m., last entry 8:30 p.m.
Experience an immersive adventure that promises a magical holiday moment for all and be inspired by the magic of the holiday season! Stroll along the Wonderland Trail past woodland creatures from the Pacific Northwest and marvel at majestic Mount Rainier. See a spectacular world of reptiles and fish while wandering through Meandering Mangrove. Step into the future at the Forest Trailhead—a luminous celebration of the incredible animals coming to Woodland Park Zoo’s new exhibit of the same name opening in 2026. Get an illuminated sneak peek at some of the forest ambassadors—such as red pandas and tree kangaroos—that will soon call our zoo their home. Historic Carousel: 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. daily
Take a whirl on Woodland Park Zoo’s Historic Carousel of classic, hand-carved wooden carousel horses. ADA ramp access. Cost: $3 a ride, in addition to zoo admission.
Animal keeper talks and guest experiences
Programs are free with zoo admission except as noted. Daily schedules and locations are posted at the zoo’s West Entrance at 5500 Phinney Ave. N. or South Entrance at 750 N. 50th St., Seattle, WA 98103. All programs are subject to cancellation due to weather, animal availability or staff availability.

Experience highlights
Penguin Snack Time: 2:30 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays
The zoo’s Humboldt penguin colony has more than 35 individuals all with different “penguinalities.” Come and hear about all the recent action, drama and comedy happening between the penguins while watching them receive their afternoon snack.
Lion Enrichment Toss: 11:30 a.m. Fridays, Sundays
Lion pair Tandie and Ilanga go wild for enrichment! Watch as they enjoy some of their favorite bones, boxes or jumbo paper towel rolls. Discover how the zoo enhances the lives of these large and powerful predators.
Gorilla Snack Time: 1:00 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
See the gorilla troops receive their daily snack and learn about the family structures, fantastic animal care and what you can do to support animals in the wild.
Sloth Bear Snack: 1:00 p.m. Mondays, Saturdays
Meet the sloth bears and discover one of the most unique feeding strategies in the animal kingdom! Learn how they catch insect prey with their powerful lungs and strong claws. Then, watch up close as they vacuum up their afternoon snack delivered through a clear tube.
Make Enrichment for Animals – Kea: 12:30 p.m. Saturdays
Animals love to solve puzzles, explore new things, sniff out surprises and play! Learn what it takes to provide fun opportunities for animals to show off their natural abilities by putting your creativity to the test. Design and build enrichment items for the zoo’s clever and curious kea parrots.
Senior Zoo Walkers (fee based)
Join the zoo for a program designed especially for seniors! The self-guided social walking program promotes fitness and well-being among adults ages 55 and up. Participants spend time socializing with peers in a beautiful natural setting while being active and learning more about wildlife. Indoor children’s experiences
Zoomazium: 9:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. daily
With different play areas for children birth to 8, Zoomazium is an indoor place to explore, learn and have fun! What could be more fun than exploring a mountain cave, crossing a rope bridge in the tree canopy, discovering what lies beneath a savanna water hole or even climbing a 20-foot tree?! All this and more are awaiting discovery for young children developing their interest in nature. Join the zoo every Friday for a sensory conscious experience on Low-sensory Fridays.
Shake, Rattle and Roar in Zoomazium: 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays
Toddlers and caregivers are invited to a sing-along inspired by nature and the animals here at the zoo. Afterwards, sing, dance, and play instruments while listening to animal and nature-themed music.
Look, Listen and Feel Storytime: 10:30. a.m. Mondays, Fridays
Come hear a story with hands-on elements in Cathy Herzig Basecamp Northwest. Designed for young guests, this story time experience is multisensory and themed to each season of the year.
Design to Scale: 11:00 a.m. –noon Wednesdays
Ever wonder what it takes to build an exhibit at Woodland Park Zoo? From the zoo’s exhibit technicians to the horticulture team, guests will explore the innovative design features that help cold-blooded friends. Practice some of your design ideas by building your own miniature habitat.
Turtle Head Start Lab: 1:30–2:30 p.m. Sundays, Fridays
Being a small turtle in the wild has its challenges but with a little support from the zoo everyone can help Washington’s native western pond turtles thrive. This hands-on activity lets guests learn and mimic the work the zoo’s animal keepers do in the Turtle Head Start Center before releasing young turtles back into the wild.
