These critically endangered babies are Egyptian tortoises that just hatched on July 4 and 6, 2026. Currently, our Egyptian tortoises are living behind the scenes in a warm and cozy habitat complete with a sandy substrate and lots of attention from their dedicated animal keepers.

This successful hatching at Woodland Park Zoo helps maintain genetic diversity and is part of our commitment to the conservation of this species through the Egyptian Tortoise Species Survival Plan (SSP). Managed by the @zoos_aquariums, the SSP is a cooperative breeding and conservation program aimed at maintaining a healthy, and genetically diverse, captive population of Egyptian tortoises for future generations.

Thanks to their animal keepers for giving them everything they need to thrive and grow!
