We are overjoyed to share some very exciting and a We are overjoyed to share some very exciting and adorable news: Jamani’s baby is here! The western lowland gorilla mama delivered her infant at 5:50am May 18.

A second-time mom, Jamani is showing all the good maternal skills we want to see, nursing and bonding with her little one. She’s holding the baby close to her body—so close in fact that we cannot confirm the sex of this precious newborn yet.

The baby’s father is silverback Nadaya and this is his first offspring. Jamani and her newborn are spending most of their time in the behind-the-scenes sleeping dens with the rest of the gorilla family. She will have the option to go into the outdoor habitat with her baby if she wishes, but it may be several days before guests can see the new gorilla family.

And there is still more excitement to come: Olympia—one of the other females in Nadaya’s group—is still on birth watch and due to give birth any day now! Jamani and Olympia lived together at North Carolina Zoo where they each gave birth to a son in 2012 weeks apart and successfully raised them together.

Get all the exciting details on Jamani’s special delivery in our latest blog via the link in our bio or at blog.zoo.org ... and stay tuned for more updates! ❤️🦍
Have you spotted two of our newest residents? Afte Have you spotted two of our newest residents? After two decades, spotted hyenas have returned to Woodland Park Zoo’s African Savanna habitat! Say hello to 1-year-old Mosi and 3-year-old Razi! 🐾💗🐾

The newcomers are young and pretty shy, so they’re exploring their new habitat at a slower pace. That means viewing opportunities may be limited at first as they acclimate and choose between roaming the outdoor habitat and resting in their off-view indoor dens.
