The Wait is Over!

Lion Cubs to Make Public Debut May 18

Two lion cubs with light brown fur sit and walk on green grass, with one cub stepping forward on a log while the other sits beside it. Both appear alert, surrounded by natural vegetation.
A lioness lies on grassy ground with two lion cubs beside her. One cub is looking at the camera while the other faces sideways. They are resting together in the sunlight with a rocky background behind them.
A lion cub nuzzles affectionately against an adult male lion sitting on grass, showing a tender moment between the two animals.

We’re not lion, Woodland Park Zoo’s two adorable South African lion cubs will make their public debut Monday, May 18. Viewing the 4-month old female cubs will be intermittent—there is no viewing schedule at this time.

Kamari (kuh‑MAH‑ree) and Zawadi (zah-WAH-dee) were born January 14 to first‑time parents, mom Ilanga (ee‑LONG‑uh) and dad Tandie. Kamari’s name means “moon” in Swahili, Zawadi means “gift.”

Both mom and dad are doing excellently in their new roles as parents, as all four lions continue to bond, play and, yes, nap in the outdoor habitat.  The pride of lions lives in the zoo’s African Savanna.

Zoo hours: 9:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m. daily. Accessibility: Information about accessibility and resources, one-to-one aides, sighted guides, mobility equipment rentals, and a sensory map and tools can be found at www.zoo.org/access. ADA ramp access for Historic Carousel.
