Weaver: A New Generation Embracing Mountain Goat Wool Weaving and the Cultural Importance of Mountain Goat Conservation

Tulalip Tribes’ new documentary Weaver debuts online to the public tomorrow, June 12 at 7:00 p.m. The public can watch the short film at the following link: Weaver

Weaver highlights how in Coast Salish tribes, wool weaving isn’t just a cultural practice, but a way of life. Through colonization, this tradition suffered but is now being renewed by a next generation of weavers who are having to look to new places to learn the techniques and find the resources of their ancestors. Weaver follows one young artist’s journey learning this traditional art form and diverse methods of collecting wool for cultural significant art.

Woodland Park Zoo is honored to partner with Tulalip Tribes to share wool from the zoo’s three mountain goats for weaving and is proud to have a supporting role in this film.
